Damera Yadaiah

It was Dr Damera Yadaiah's team at the Special Care Newborn Unit at the Nalgonda District Hospital that nursed 650-gramme Mamatha back to health. She was a premature baby and it took six long months for recovery.

It was the first case of its kind and Dr Yadaiah came up with creative solutions. Mamatha's mother was not lactating enough and he persuaded mothers of newborn babies to donate some milk for her. It was essential that she be given breast-milk and not powder milk.
