The news of the submission of the M.B. Shah Commission’s final report in mid-October came with clear signs that its tenure is unlikely to be extended. The Shah Commission was set up three years ago. Its interim report of January 2011 and its report specifically on Goa had not just flagged a variety of reasons for illegal iron ore mining in the country but had strongly recommended a ban on iron ore exports as one measure to curb illegal mining.The foremost reason cited in media reports for the tenure of the commission not being extended. . .
